Academic Programs, Assessment and Student Life

TWIS serves learners from Daycare through Grade 6 and plans to open its first Secondary School classes during the next academic year.

Languages of instruction and Cambridge programs

French remains the main language of instruction in Kindergarten, with two English-language Kindergarten classes available for families who need an English pathway.

Cambridge Early Years is delivered in French at Kindergarten level. Cambridge Primary is delivered in English, while the wider Primary program becomes progressively bilingual.

  • English, Science, Mathematics, and ICT are taught in English.
  • French, Global Perspectives, Social Studies, and other learning activities are taught in French.

How learning is assessed

Formative assessment includes classwork, classroom activities, homework, and unit tests. Unit assessments usually follow about four weeks of learning, while term examinations take place after about twelve weeks.

From Grade 3 onward, Cambridge Progression Tests provide an annual diagnostic report. Results and recommendations are shared with families, teachers, and the school.

French as a Foreign Language

French as a Foreign Language classes support beginners and students who need focused help. Assessment follows the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

Annual examinations are organized with the Institut français or the relevant French Embassy services. Depending on progress, a student may earn up to three internationally recognized French-language diplomas during Primary School.

Learning support and enrichment

Support programs strengthen reading, comprehension, vocabulary, communication in English and French, foundational Mathematics, and other essential skills. TWIS also works with partners to support children with specific educational needs or learning difficulties.

An optional homework support and academic enrichment program is available after regular school hours. Participation details will be communicated during the year.

Extracurricular activities and practical learning

  • Modern dance and traditional Rwandan dance.
  • Abacus mental arithmetic, karate, gymnastics, acrobatics, mini-basketball, football, and swimming.
  • Arts, debate, spelling bees, practical life, home science, reading and writing, and the Virtues Club.
  • Kindergarten workshops use observation, movement, hands-on exploration, and practical activities to build language, social, and physical skills.
