What is Literacy Week at TWIS?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Literacy Week is a time when our entire school community\u2014teachers, learners, and parents\u2014 comes together to celebrate the joy and importance of language and communication. It provides an opportunity for children to explore stories, strengthen their reading and writing skills, and express themselves confidently in both languages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Why did we put this all together? Well we had several objectives, listed below:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To foster a lifelong love for reading and storytelling.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
To develop bilingual literacy skills in English and French.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
To strengthen reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
To encourage creativity, imagination, and confident expression.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
To promote collaboration among learners, teachers, and families.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
Two Wings, One Mission: Bilingual Literacy<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
At TWIS, our core objective is to develop strong bilingual literacy skills, and this week was a vibrant success in both languages. Students dove into engaging activities designed to build confidence and fluency:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n
English Focus:<\/strong>\u00a0Lessons included dedicated time for Guided Reading and Comprehension activities, helping students deepen their understanding of texts.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
French Focus:<\/strong>\u00a0Learners engaged in\u00a0<\/strong>Buddy Reading\u00a0<\/strong>and Fluency sessions, encouraging them to speak and read confidently with their peers in French.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
Creative Expression:<\/strong>\u00a0Imagination took center stage with various\u00a0Creative Writing and Project\u00a0activities, giving students the chance to express themselves confidently and see their ideas turn into stories.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n

\ud83c\udfad The Grand Finale: Costumes and Community<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
The week culminated in a magnificent celebration that truly highlighted the collaborative spirit of our TWIS community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Thursday, November 6th<\/strong>, our hallways were transformed by beloved literary figures as students and staff participated in our grand Book Character Costume Day<\/strong>! Learners proudly showed off their creativity during the class exhibition, often wearing costumes that parents had kindly helped to create, find, or purchase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the afternoon, we were delighted to welcome parents to visit our\u00a0<\/strong>Closing Literacy Exhibition\u00a0in their children\u2019s respective classes, showcasing the incredible work produced throughout the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\ud83d\ude4f Thank You, Parents!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
We extend our sincere gratitude to all the parents and guardians who participated! Many parents took the time to visit and read a story to their child’s class, assisted learners in decorating book covers, and donated reading books to enrich our classroom libraries. Your involvement strengthens our mission to foster a lifelong love for reading and storytelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
